b3’s newest Remedial Massage Therapist Dan, is a sports enthusiast armed with all the knowledge and experience to keep you performing at your best. Get to know Dan and where it all began.
I grew up on the North Island of New Zealand until I was 11 and moved to Australia in 2005. I lived in NSW for 2 years then to the Barossa Valley where I completed high school. I moved to Adelaide last year to work and take on more study.
Footy has been a huge part of my life and I’ve played it ever since I moved to Australia. I started when I was 11 years old playing in NSW for the local team at under 14s level, then for Nuriootpa in the Barossa, worked my way up through the underage programme at Central Districts, spent a year playing for Eudunda in the Mid North and now Back at Nuriootpa ready to tackle what will be a huge season of 2017.
Playing footy amongst other sports can take it’s toll on the body and I for one have had my fair share of injuries. Massage is something that has helped manage tightness from strenuous training as well as recovery from injuries and chronic growing pains. I originally studied the cert 4 specializing in sports massage because I wanted to help athletes maintain peak physical condition and manage tightness and injuries. I learnt a lot during that course but I also discovered the benefits of remedial massage, which lead me to study the Diploma of Remedial Massage in 2015.
What I love most about working as a Remedial Therapist is seeing results. It’s very rewarding having a client who has come to you to help with their pain or dysfunction and being able to work with them to achieve their goals.
My long term goal is to become an Exercise Physiologist and this year I will begin the 5 year double degree at Flinders University. This will enable me to help people with chronic and complex conditions, deliver exercise based lifestyle modifications to prevent and treat injuries and overall expand my knowledge of the human body throughout the course.
Through my treatments clients will receive a thorough examination, hands on treatment using different massage techniques suited to the clients needs and referrals to other health professionals if deemed necessary. I am a firm believer in self treatment and have a wide knowledge of different self treating techniques which can help the client achieve their goals faster and more efficiently (be prepared to walk out with some homework! i.e. Stretches, exercises etc.) .
My aim is for every client to walk away enlightened with an understanding of their bodies and their injuries or conditions knowing that they have taken a step in the right direction having done something beneficial for themselves.
